Was Killing the American Economy Absolutely Necessary?

Like it or not, this is a question that will continue to be asked, and the terrible answer has already begun to take a convincing shape.

Recently, Fox News analyst Brit Hume told Shannon Bream that “it’s time to consider the possibility” that “this lockdown -- as opposed to more moderate mitigation efforts -- is a colossal public policy calamity.” He goes on to reference the millions of jobs, businesses, and incomes lost, and further mentions the negative “effect on children who don’t have a normal life,” concluding that “we may never recover from many of these losses for a very long time if ever.”

I agree with the overall premise of the article.

For the most part, it has been hysteria driving this corona virus situation, not reality. The reality is that yes it is a dangerous virus, but not so dangerous as to turn our society upside down, collapse the stock market, etc.

The vast majority of deaths from this virus have been the elderly and those with compromised immune systems. It's time to realize that a number of these deaths attributed to the virus, may have died around the same time anyway.

For the rest of us, we should take the necessary precautions, IE washing our hands as much as possible, and not touching our eyes, mouth, nose, and inner ear with uncovered fingers while in public, etc. Then live and work our normal lives.

We as a human race cannot live our lives on a constant worst case scenario basis. Nobody would ever ride in a car. We cannot stay in this lock down mode forever. We cannot live productive lives being petrified over this corona virus. Especially because this is not a worst case scenario type of disease.

The corona virus is treatable for most and preventable for all. So let's do it and get back to normal.
